
The Great Exhaustion
You Are Not Failing. You Are Tired.
This course begins not with a method but with an acknowledgment. You have been trying. You have read the books, sat on the cushion, attended the retreats. And you are tired -- you have been carrying the full weight of the attempt to 'figure it out.' That weight is the subject of Day 1.

To set down the effort of 'becoming awake' long enough to notice what is actually present underneath it.
Core Teaching
"The Shotgun Approach -- gathering disconnected techniques in the hope that one will finally work -- is not a failure of character. In actuality, it is quite a rational response to a genuine problem: most instruction is decontextualized. We receive technique without transmission, maps without territory."
"The result is what we might call Spiritual Materialism: rearranging furniture in a prison, hoping a new layout will make us free. Each new technique adds to the weight of the attempt rather than reducing it. The practice space becomes a second workplace -- another arena of performance, another opportunity to fall short."
If we are being mean and judgy about this, we would call this phenomenon "Spiritual NPC", another costume for us to dress up as, another route for escapism.
Today, we do not introduce a new method. Instead, you are invited to observe the 'lunge' toward fixing, solving, and improving -- and we practise, briefly, not to lunge.
Guided Practice: Simply Drop
Sit for 15 minutes.
Set a single intention: to abstain from all effortful 'doing' in this session.
Not to meditate better. Not to reach a state.
Simply to stop, as an experiment, the machinery of spiritual improvement.
When the mind lunges to fix your life, your practice, or your performance in this exercise, note the lunge -- 'there it goes' -- and return to simple sitting.
We are not trying to prevent the lunge. We are practicing seeing it as it happens.
If you feel restless, bored, or inadequate: that is exactly what we are looking at. Do not try to resolve it. Notice its texture.

When I stop trying to improve my practice for fifteen minutes, what quality of experience moved in to fill the space? Describe it without evaluating it.
